STONE FOR LANDSCAPING
Stacking Stone: This natural stone is gathered or quarried to be flat and thin enough to stack for walls. Most often a full pallet will create 25 to 30 square feet of wall. Don’t let the small pieces in the center bother you; you’ll need them to shim and chink the back of the wall to get a good, stable fit.
Flagstone: Stone used for flooring is called flagstone. There are many varieties: slate, bluestone, and quartzite are among the most popular. When used in landscaping, flagstone should be a nominal 1-1/2" thickness or more, and should be laid on a proper base of packed gravel and sand, like pavers.
"Pattern" flagstone is cut into squares and rectangles, and is used for a tight, formal look. It is sold by the square foot.
"Irregular" flagstone is broken into natural shapes, and is sold by weight. It will create a more rustic look, with wider joints that can be filled with a variety of materials, such as grass or other live ground cover, or Gator Dust, an acrylic-treated, coarse stone dust that will resist weather, ants, and weeds, but allow your installation to flex with freeze-thaw cycles. Mortar joints are possible only when the stone is installed over a full 4 inches of concrete and laid in a mortar bed; without that base, winter weather will crack those joints in a very short time.
Andes Collection Marble Pavers: Beautiful, natural stone pavers, in a variety of colors and patterns, including circles, create a striking look with the same ease of installation and durability found in conventional paving materials.
Boulders: Round, flat or rough, in sizes from grapefruits to armchairs, and sold by weight.

STONE ... FOR BUILDING
Veneer: All building stone used in modern construction is properly called "veneer" – it is a decorative, non-structural component of a wall, steps, or fireplace.
Traditional stone veneer is most often 4" to 6" thick, and, like brick veneer, must be supported by a foundation, most often by building a footing and foundation which is 4" wider than that required for a structure, creating a "ledge". We stock several local varieties of traditional veneer, and have a large display of many more varieties for picking or matching.
A very popular alternative is thin veneer, either manufactured and colored to look like stone, or selected or sawn from natural stone in thin pieces. The advantage of these materials, sometimes called "stick-on" stone,is that they can be supported by frame construction, without a "ledge". We are dealers of high quality manufactured stone by:

When used indoors, as part of a structure, flagstone should be laid in a bed of mortar, with struck mortar joints.
Tread stock: Step treads, wall caps and column caps, hearths, and mantles are made from stone that is cut to length, width, and thickness and finished on the top and the edges to create a beautiful, natural effect. We stock bluestone, limestone, Tennessee sandstone, and two colors of granite in many widths – from 6" to 30" – and in many lengths – most commonly 6 ft, 7 ft, and 8 ft. Our custom stone shop will fabricate the stone of your choice to a size and shape to fit your application, including rock-faced edges, curved pieces, and holes drilled to allow electrical fixtures.
